SAP Leads the Overall Market

According to the latest Frost and Sullivan report on the enterprise application software market, SAP leads the overall market with an estimated share of 42.5 per cent of the total Indian market in terms of revenues for 2006. Across enterprise application categories, SAP dominated with market share of 36.5 per cent (ERP), 34.8 per cent (CRM) and 33.2 per cent (SCM).

SAP has encountered difficulties in repositioning itself for the SME market but has predicted its software-as-a-service (SaaS) expertise will enable it to increase its market share over the next three years.

Last month SAP launched the ‘Fast Start’ programme for its Business All-in-One software. The software features services such as customer relationship management, supply chain management and supplier relationship management and the Fast Start programme aims to enable SMEs in the manufacturing, services and trade industries to utilise industry-specific features.

SAP and Intel Team up

SAP and Intel are teaming up to sell an Xeon-based appliance geared to run SAP’s Business All-in-One ERP (enterprise resource planning) software.

The appliances will be loaded with Business All-in-One, SAP’s MaxDB database and SUSE Enterprise Linux from Novell, and are aimed at midsized manufacturing, trade and service industries.

India, the Fastest growing market for SAP

India emerges as the fastest growing market for SAP.

SAP more than doubled its number of customers from 1,350 a year earlier to 3,024 in December, said Ranjan Das, SAP’s president and chief executive officer for the Indian subcontinent.

SAP did not disclose its revenue from India last year or the percentage of the country’s contribution to SAP’s global revenue.
